RESEARCH AND INITIAL SKETCHES/MODELS

initial collage to start thinking about negative and positive spaces with my material: paper

DIY experiment. I found these on a website : http://www.uberloots.com/2009/05/making-toilet-paper-plant-pots/

They are recycled toilet paper rolls shaped and folded so that seedlings can be planted in soil in side them and then the whole things is planted into the ground where the cardboard will eventually decompose.

my experiment making seedling pots with paper pulp in muffin tins and drying them slowly in the oven. Wasn't quite dry when i pulled it out so they broke .

my handmade recycled paper sheet. no glue etc just newspaper soaked, blended, and flattened by hand then dried slowly in the oven.

drying my recycled paper in the oven
recycled paper pots i found on the internet
folded newspaper pots i found on the internet. apparently the  newspaper sheets like this take  quite a while to break down though and slow the growth of the seedlings so i think the pots made from pulp would be better for my stall.

http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/cm/v24/n3/stone-bears Anthony said the material nature of my paper mache reminded him of this site in the UK where the mineral rich water running down a rock face essentially petrifies anything in it's path (people have hung teddy bears etc under the water and they turn to stone after a few years)

arrangement of all our group's stalls in the marketplace with names and stall  ideas.
